Engine vibration is one of the most common problems encountered in vehicles. It is the result of some damage to the parts, the total components that make up the engine, or can also be caused by external details.

Below is a summary of the 5 most common causes of engine vibration, reference and application to diagnose on your car. However, when you notice engine or vehicle vibrations, take your car to a reputable garage to have it checked and fixed.

1. Cause from the crankshaft: damaged dampers

Engine shaking, the cause may be in the crankshaft. The crankshaft itself has an unbalanced problem that causes the engine to vibrate when spinning. A common problem is a damaged crankshaft damper.

The damper has the effect of reducing the vibrations generated by the crankshaft when spinning, so if the damper is damaged, broken, or rattled, the engine will certainly shake when operating.

2. Caused by engine mounts

These connections are the link between the engine and the body of the vehicle. It has the effect of keeping the engine, reducing the vibration of the engine when operating.

When this component is damaged, for example, the rubber cushions/mounds are broken, it will not be able to hold the engine, it will not be able to suppress the emitted vibrations. Causes the engine to vibrate strongly when operating.

If this happens, you must quickly fix it, otherwise it may cause damage to the body, engine and other components.

3. Cause from Ignition Spark – Misfire

The cause of the faulty spark plugs will cause the car to vibrate more. Problems with spark plugs include: worn spark plugs, damage that causes poor ignition; Spark plugs are stuck with too much soot, dirty. When one or more spark plugs fail, it cannot ignite, so the corresponding cylinders will not be able to complete the operation cycle, which causes the engine to vibrate violently with a loud bang.

The above causes cause engine imbalance, causing the engine to vibrate. Take the car to the garage to have the spark plugs checked and replaced.

4. Engine control program

This is a very big problem and difficult to test. Because the engine control program is very complex. It is necessary to have a diagnostic computer with the appropriate program for each vehicle model.

Problems encountered include: wrong timing of crankshaft, camshaft leading to wrong opening and closing time of intake and exhaust valves, fuel injection at the wrong time, intake sensor, camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, knock sensor, etc. is damaged, leading to incorrect signal reception by the computer program.

The problems here are mainly caused by engine failure due to wrong timing of injection and ignition. However, with all kinds of operating mechanisms, if there is a problem, the ECU will return the engine to the limp, idle mode to crawl the car to the garage.

5. Caused by extreme weather

If your car is driving in icy, cold weather, your engine will vibrate more than usual. Because it is difficult to ensure optimal engine and combustion chamber temperatures, it is understandable that it vibrates. In this case, you don’t need to do anything, because when running in normal weather, the engine will stop shaking again and everything will be OK.
